7 Choice Picks From This Year's Best Porsche Auction

Next week, Silverstone Auctions’ will host its “Porsche Sale.” It might as well be called “The Mother Lode.” We’re talking 300-plus Butzi-loving lots, everything from air-cooled barn finds to über-rare special editions and collectible automobilia. Dynamite stuff. If you’re a Porsche guy, this one’ll make the room start spinning. Here are a few choice picks…

1991 Porsche Carrera 911 RS NGT

The Drive

Porsche only made 290 of these. NGT cars are basically endurance race-ready (roll cage, proper buckets, long-range fuel tank, fire extinguisher, external cut-off) without any real carpeting or sound deadening. Want.

Das Coat Rack

The Drive

Cam cover turned functional household artwork. Hand-painted, and the hooks are new, machined stainless steel valves. Donor model not identified; best guess is a 16-valve 944. Perfect place to hang your replica McQueen Gulf-branded swag.

1975 Porsche 911 2.7 MFi Carrera Targa

The Drive

One of 631 ever built. Consider the MFi a close cousin of the 2.7RS Touring, wedding that 210-hp engine to a G-series body. The last road-going Porsche with mechanically fuel injection, hence MFi. And a proper Bosch setup here; none of that emissions-friendly K-Jet nonsense.

2003 Porsche 911 GT3 Manthey

The Drive

If you’ve got to go 996-chassis, do it right. Customized by the Manthey racing team, this is a legit Clubsport Lightweight Spec car with a laundry list of goodies (GT3 Cup aero and diff, KW coilovers, big brakes) and certified 417-hp dyno sheet.

1962 Porsche 356B Super 90 Coupé

The Drive

The one that started it all. Super 90, along with Speedster and Carrera, helps make up the holy trilogy of collectible 356s. T6 body, meaning it’s got the neat twin-louver rear. Also, that color combination. Man. Silver over red leather is about as good as it gets.

1959 Porsche 308 N Super

The Drive

Barn find, in the most literal sense. Rescued from and restored circa 2014. Not a top-flight 50-hp Master model, not that it matters. Step 1. Tell people your new-old Porsche has a 2.4-liter diesel. Step 2. Enjoy the looks on their faces.

2004 Porsche Carrera GT
